Summary

“Chapter the Sixth” (Chapter 6) – A preface to Chapter 6 reveals that Satchel has received a note from Kerouac saying he has made a mistake and to wear the amulet he has put on her pillow. The preface also reveals that Satchel calls her uncle, who has taken Kerouac’s father to the hospital to identify his remains. In the main section of the chapter, Mikey must take painkillers to deal with the aftereffects of the accident. Late that night, Mikey heads over to the Field with his cat, Mary Magdalene, where meets with Jared. Mikey thinks about how Jared’s grandfather had fought Gods and Goddesses in the area, defeating them before they could take over the world.
