The Speakeasy
The speakeasy is used as Arturo Ui’s headquarters throughout the play, and is a location representative of Ui’s own corruption. Although he continuously climbs the social ranks, Ui maintains the speakeasy as his stronghold, never letting the audience forget precisely what type of character Arturo Ui is: a gangster.
City Hall
City Hall houses two of plays most important scenes, O’Casey’s inquiry into the sock improvement loan, and the trial concerning the warehouse fire. In both cases, justice is avoided, and the court appears on Brecht’s stage as a mockery of law and order.
