Summary
Another one of the short scenes in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, the tenth scene depicts Dogsborough dictating his will to Young Dogsborough in his country house. Despite his honorable reputation, Dogsborough admits to being complicit in the crimes Ui and his gang have carried out. He lists the crimes of Roma, Giri, Givola and Ui, who masterminded the whole debacle, and even informs the audience that the Chairman of the Inquiry, O’Casey, has been gunned down as well. Dogsborough calls Ui’s actions “open-terrorism” and expresses his regrets at letting it all happen (66).
Scene 11 takes the audience Back in the speakeasy: Givola is forging another version of Dogsborough’s will, with the gangster’s hoping that Dogsborough won’t live much longer. Ui’s henchman are additionally trying to keep Dogsborough confined to his country house, so that he cannot...
