Summary

Chapter 11. One by one the group makes their way over the Carvers' fence, beginning with old Doc Billingsley, Dave, and Cammie. Susi Geller becomes overwhelmed with grief when she learns about Jim Reed, screaming in such a way that those who have been in the woods begin to worry that she will attract the odd cat-like creatures from the woods. As the men lift Jim's body over the fence, Susi's crying becomes worse, forcing the men to beg someone to make her be quiet. Finally everyone but Johnny and Brad are over the fence. Brad helps Johnny over by allowing him to stand on his back, creating such a racial farce that Brad cries himself to tears.
