Summary
Chloe is disappointed when Laurent tells her that he has given up on Laure. She asks a few details about Laure. Meanwhile, while that is happening, Laure spends the day going from bookstore to bookstore. She keeps asking about Laurent, but she can’t find him.
That evening, Chloe convinces her mother and stepfather that the frame of one of their portraits looks tarnished. She says they should go to a gilder, having learned earlier that that’s what Laure does for a living. The next day Chloe goes to the studio and meets Laure, giving her the address of the store where Laurent works.
Analysis
