Summary

Laurent set up a meeting with Modiano. He was hesitant to talk to the writer at first, but eventually he just asks him about Laure. Modiano claims he doesn't know much, but he is able to give Laurent a very thorough description. He doesn't know where she lives, much to Laurent’s dismay. Laurent spends the following day going to all the drycleaners in the area. He finds the one that Laure went to, but the clerk doesn't know anything about her, either.

Analysis

This chapter exists just to push Laurent’s search forward. Laurent runs into Modiano, which shows just how dedicated he actually is to finding Laure. Earlier, he had remarked that Modiano was an elusive writer, and it was very hard to actually get in touch with him. This is why he didn’t...
