Summary
Laurent meets his daughter, Chloe, outside of a café. Two of her schoolmates come with her. Chloe gets her father to lie, saying that he is a boyfriend and not her father. He is upset with the lie, but he takes some measure of satisfaction that at least boys wouldn’t be going after her if they thought she had an older boyfriend. They return to his house and he shows her the handbag. She can tell that her father is into Laure, and encourages him to try and speak with the author, Modiano, that had signed Laure’s book. He thinks that’s too extreme, but he does want to pursue a drycleaner’s note that he has found. Chloe can sense that her father is interested in Laure, but...
