Zhorzha “Zee” Trego
Because Zhorzha Trego's first name is so complex, she chooses to be known as Zee. However, Gentry refers to her as Zhorzha. For the sake of clarity in this guide, she is referred to as Zee except in direct quotes.
Zee is one of the narrators, and many of the scenes are viewed from her perspective. Her mother is Dorothy and her sister is LaReigne. She often takes care of Marcus, LaReigne's son. She has experienced problems prior to the opening events of this novel, partly because of her home situation that has not prepared her for adulthood but partly because of her own poor choices. She was involved with a man months earlier who became angry when she announced she was pregnant, and she wrecked his motorcycle during that argument.
