Summary
Chapter 42 is titled “Gentry.” Gentry converses with Gawen, who points out that the men are not honorable and mean to harm them. There are four men altogether and two are looking in the direction from which Edrard fired the arrow. Using hand signals, Gentry warns Edrard. The scene erupts into chaos with Edrard firing several more arrows and another shooting toward Gentry. Gentry puts one man down with his sword. Tague Barnwell rushes into the fight with a pistol and Gentry stabs him with the sword. Gawen says Gentry did well and the Witch says he was protecting himself. Hildegard begins to pray. Gentry rushes into the house in search of Zee and LaReigne.
