Summary
Chapter 25 is titled “Gentry.” It is clear that Zee wants to have sex. Gentry says he is bound to protect Zee and that he cannot do that if their relationship goes to a point where she casts him aside. She eventually promises she will never do that. He also cites her status as the “daughter of a dragon” (175), and Zee wonders if he is basing that on the elaborate tattoo she has on her leg. She points out that it is a phoenix, not a dragon, which is a symbol of the fact that she planned to rise about the “ashes” of her life. The tattoo goes up her leg with fire erupting from the bird's beak on her back. Gentry carries on a conversation with Gawen (who urges him to have sex with Zee) and Hildegard (who calls Zee a slut) while...
