Summary
Monday morning dawns and Oscar tries to do things that are normal, despite the fact that everything is wrong. Callie arrives to check on him and tells him she spoke with the blacksmith who told her that bad weather could adversely affect a garden, and glass houses weren’t viable anyway. Besides, he added, if there was a disturbance in the forest, they were safe in the Barrow village. Oscar adds that the City is safer, but Callie argues asking if magic made the City.
Callie admits she doesn’t understand the Barrow or City people. She can’t understand why Caleb would leave right after his apprentice was killed, opting to care more about making money on the continent. Callie offers to stay a while, and Oscar is grateful. He stays in the background, memorizing the phrases she uses...
