Summary
Nightmares plague Oscar again until he finally wakes with a start as his dream self falls into the blankness of his dream. He realizes that he is holding onto the wooden cat he carved the night before, and names it Block. Since morning is still hours off, Oscar picks up “Secrets of the Wizards” and goes upstairs, feeling safer there than he did in the cellar for the first time.
The first page announces that it is the official chronicle of Aletheia’s wizards, promising to record the knowledge and entrusting that future generations will continue to do the same. It is followed by their credo, and promise to serve Aletheia and its magic – a reminder of their oath and honor. The wizards found magic in all manner of life from the behavior of animals to the movement of the planets...
