Summary
Gavin is surprised by how calm Caroline is, completely unfazed by the summons to his office. He tries to explain Sara’s case from a legal perspective but Caroline insists the law has no business interfering with people who want to get married no matter where they came from. Gavin brings up the town conspiracy and Caroline calmly suggests he arrest them all then. Getting into the spirit of it, she tells him he could charge them all with encouraging a crime, because they’d definitely done that. When he tells her that Sara and Tom had both confessed, she barely thinks twice before telling Gavin that so many thought they’d committed a crime that there was nothing they could do but confess.
