Summary
In January 2011, Amy writes to Sara and tells her more about Tom and his history. She tells her that in her opinion, Tom is a lonely man, although he’d never admit it. She also tells Sara briefly about the night Andy stayed with her before leaving the state to put some distance between himself and his father.
Sara would often talk to Amy when no one else was in the shop and one day she asks Amy a rhetorical question and from the door Tom answers. She gives Tom a coffee and asks him if he thinks John objects to the bookstore, since he hadn’t so much as come in, but Tom admits John doesn’t care about much these days.
