It was a Monday when the still-living women of 300 Fox Way decided to finally assess Richard Gansey’s impending doom, the disintegration of their lives as they knew them, and what those two things had to do with each other.

Importance: This quote establishes the dramatics of the narrator’s voice. There is a lot of information packed into this single quote. First, the reader knows that Gansey - and possibly the women of 300 Fox Way - are going to die. This establishes the stakes from the very beginning so that the author can explore how the main characters are going to get out of these problems. The author’s use of vocabulary creates more spectacle. Everything is urgent and the characters only have a limited amount of time to change their fate.
