Carl Seaton
Carl Seaton is a 17-year-old boy. When the novel opens, Carl is confessing that he broke into the home of Aaron and Muriel stone to steal their handguns. When he finds the family of three is home sleeping, Carl shoots them in their beds. Carl confesses his crime to an attorney by the name of Trent.
In the same week that Trent gets Carl Seaton to confess to his crimes, Trent is called in to help with the Alicia Barret case. When Trent meets Jason Dorrant, the suspect in the case, he sees a similarity between Carl and Jason in the innocence in both of the boys' eyes.
