Part II—Pages 22-29 Summary
In Part II, pages 22-29, Jason Dorrant starts to cry when he hears of Alicia's murder. It is the first time Jason has cried since he got in a fight defending himself against Bobo Kelton pushing Jason in the school cafeteria, and Jason getting in trouble for it. Emma comes into Jason's room to see if Jason is OK since she knows he liked watching Alicia put her puzzles together. The doorbell rings and the detective is there to question Jason.
Part II—Pages 22-29 Analysis
When Jason says he is sorry for Alicia's death to Emma, it is as if he is seeking forgiveness for what he has done. The detective showing up at Jason's house to question him infers Jason is the prime suspect in the murder.
