Chapters 25, 26, 27, 28 Summary
In chapter twenty-five, the FBI has been monitoring phone conversations between all of the Ruckers. Victor Westlake is called in to listen to a conversation between Dee Ray Rucker and someone named Sully. Sully tells Dee Ray that he has found Malcolm Bannister. He knows he is in Florida, his new name is Max Baldwin and that he changed his appearance.
Max is picked up by two FBI agents and taken to a safe house. They tell him there has been a breach in security and the Ruckers know where he is. Victor Westlake arrives at the safe house. Max tells him that he wants to leave witness protection. They ask him to allow them to keep protecting him since they need him safe for the trial. Max is adamant and wants to make his own plans.
