Chapters 21, 22, 23, 24 Summary
In chapter twenty-one, Max writes a letter to Vanessa Young, a woman with whom he is in love. He met her in Frostburg when she came to visit her brother. He has never touched her, but they have written letters. He begs her to see him.
U.S. Marshal Pat Surhoff takes Max away from Fort Carson. He gives Max all of his new identity papers in the name of Max Reed Baldwin. He will live in Neptune Beach, a few miles east of Jacksonville in a one bedroom condo. Max will receive his reward money once his bank account is up and running. He is given a background summary on the life of Max Reed Baldwin to learn.
Once in Florida, Max sets up a checking account. He buys new clothes and leases a car. He is ready for his new life...
