Chapters 7-10 Summary
In chapter seven, Penn is called to his father's office, who reveals the truth about his dilemma. In 1973 Penn's aunt was raped by her ex-boyfriend, Don Hillman. Ray Presley had come to the doctor's office and the two had gotten talking about Ellen's trouble. Three weeks later Hillman was found shot in the head. The next time Presley came in the office Tom asked Presley if he knew anything about Hillman's death. Ray replied that he killed the man. When Presley realized how upset the doctor is he returned with a gun he had borrowed from Tom. Another gun, a .38, was not there. Presley told Tom the gun was lost, but Tom knew Presley used the gun to kill Hillman and reporting the crime was not an option. Presley did not say another word about it for 25 years, but when he...
