Summary
In Chapter 35, “Wall of Tears,” Owen and Mancini are standing near at well in the courtyard. Mancini points out that the situation looks dire for Owen's father, and that he does not see how Ankarette can help this time. Owen counters, saying he has trust in her. They hear Ankarette's voice, “ghosting up to them from the lip of the well” (291). She says she can see Owen, though he cannot see her. She explains that there are tunnels “honeycombing beneath the castle” (292), which explains how the castle got its name. Ankarette instructs Mancini to go to Lord Kiskaddon with a message that he is to arrive on time to Severn's summons, without guards or weapons. Mancini reluctantly agrees.
