Summary

In Chapter 16, Owen is immediately defensive. Evie says she hates to sleep and wants to talk. Horwath told her that Severn did not kill his nephews and Evie believes her grandfather always tells her the truth. He has told her that the king takes the coins from The Fountain to make people believe there is magic. Evie also reveals the story of Lord Bletchy's clash with Severn over the throne and that Bletchy was responsible for killing Severn's nephews. Later, Ankarette confirms the story, adding that Severn feels responsible for the boys' deaths because he trusted Bletchy. Ankarette says the crown has power that corrupts leaders, and she believes it is happening to Severn. In Mancini's report, he says that he did not work for the Espion while Bletchy was in charge.
