Summary
With the realization that Doro has been spying for the Comtesse the entire time, Lilliet knows that the threat is true. They found her note to the Tenor on his body, and believed now that she was involved in his death. Aristafeo confronts her and asks her to send a letter claiming her innocence. He admits that he told the police he would have given the Tenor a more “honorable” death, calling the killer a monster. Lilliet says she will send the letter. That night, she discovers that her voice is mostly broken - and that was all that was left of her fame. She decides that she could not be caught. When Aristafeo begins distancing himself from her, she knows that he is going to leave her.
