Summary
Lilliet foreshadows Paris on fire and wondered if the Tenor wanted her to die with him in the war. She refused to admit that she was upset in leaving Pauline, and pretended to be happy with the decision. However, Lilliet tells the reader that Paris felt empty to her after her time in Baden-Baden. When she went to a dressmaker for a new wardrobe, however, she ran into the composer. He introduced himself as Aristafeo Cadiz and revealed that he knew her history as a circus rider. Lilliet invited him to come teach her now that Pauline is gone.
A few weeks later, the Emperor surrendered and the Empress was exiled from Paris. This led to Paris’ liberation and marked the end of Lilliet's bargain with the Comtesse. Lilliet received a letter from Pauline that she had...
