Summary

In Chapter 17, Jude momentarily wakes to find Cardan tending to her. When she wakes again, she is alone. After bathing, she puts on one of Cardan's shirts and a cloak before going to her own room in search of clothes. She finds Tatterfell is playing Uno with Oak. Jude is surprised and worried about his presence. Vivienne, Taryn, and Heather arrive. Vivienne and Taryn begin berating Jude for “rushing into danger” (154). Heather asks if Jude's magical healing means she has magical powers. She is not certain. Taryn is really confused by Jude's marriage to Cardan, saying that Jude hated him when they were in school together. Cardan arrives, interrupting the conversation.
