Summary
In Chapter 6, Jude arrives at court. When she was Cardan's seneschal, she was afforded respect. That is not the case when everyone believes she is Taryn. Jude fights the impulse to leave as she thinks about all the ways Cardan might order her execution. Jude note's Cardan's appearance, including that his tail is visible. Jude notes the presence of Lady Asha, Cardan's mother. Nicasia, the daughter of Queen Orlagh of the Undersea, is at his side. Jude knows she was romantically involved with both Locke and Cardan in the past. Nicasia believes Jude killed Locke and cited Jude's other acts of violence to support her claim. Cardan uses glamour and questions Jude, who continues to insist she does not know who killed Locke. Nicasia suggests Jude (whom she still believes is Taryn) might have a charm against the glamour.
