The Keys

Several of the kids have keys to the door that open from the tunnels, which is a symbol of the original purpose and design of the neighborhood. They have discovered that the key opens any door, which is a symbol of the lack of privacy and secrecy in the neighborhood as a whole. Later, Beth notes that Ed has an entire ring of keys that is meant to symbolize that he owns a lot of things. She feels sure he only owns a lot of keys.
