Heather Cash

Heather Cash is the narrator of the majority of this novel. She is about to be a high school sophomore in the summer of 1977. She is the daughter of Connie and Gary. Connie is a stay-at-home wife and mother who is in the throes of mental health issues that leave her often confined to her bed. Gary is a district attorney. Heather's younger sister Junie is 12. Heather is a strong character but has a naive view of the world. This is partly due to the time when children believed they were safe. Connie's heath issues mean that Heather has become the person who most often cooks meals for the family and makes the daily decisions for Junie.
