Summary

In Chapter 36, Heather puts the pills from Mrs. Hansen's house into an almost empty Anacin bottle. Heather telephones Gary, saying she has seen Ed. Heather realizes that Claude is the only steady relationship in her life. She decides that she wants to talk to him. She plans to tell him everything. Heather has trouble looking at Connie the next morning, now that she knows about Gary's affair. She remembers how vibrant Connie was before Junie was born. She wonders if Gary's affair had been the final straw. Heather notices some kids headed out to play baseball, prompting her to think about Pantown overall. Ricky says he is having a party in Maureen's honor at the quarry. He denies that he is dating Brenda as Ed had said.
