Summary

In Chapter 30, Brenda awakens Heather the next morning. She is worried that the men in the basement saw the name “Taft” on the army shirt Heather was wearing. Brenda fears that will lead them to her. Heather says she is going to tell Gary everything. Brenda agrees. Heather knows that this could make things difficult for Gary because he works with Sheriff Nillson, “but my dad always did the right thing. Always” (177). Heather bicycles to her father's office. Heather feels that Gary is probably suffering because Heather's friend is dead. Heather says that when she and Brenda saw Sheriff Nillson in the basement Maureen was performing oral sex. She does not say Junie opened the door. She insists Maureen was murdered. Gary takes notes as Heather tells him the entire story again. Gary says he is sorry that Heather had that experience. He...
