Summary

In Chapter 24, Heather had told Gary about Connie's near breakdown the previous night, which prompted a fight between Gary and Connie. At one point, Heather heard Connie scream that they should all be scared of Gary. Heather cannot find copper ID bracelets at the jewelry department at Zayre's, but she sees the earrings Maureen was wearing just before she disappeared. They are almost 50 dollars, and the clerk says three pair have been stolen recently. Ricky tells Heather he is worried about Maureen. He says that she did not ride to the quarry party with them. He tells Heather to “come to me first” if she hears anything about Maureen. Heather stops by Maureen's with an excuse about picking up a shirt Maureen borrowed. Mrs. Hansen says she should not have told Sheriff Nillson that Maureen apparently took some of her heart pills. She...
