Summary

Julia asks Mary if her husband ever loses his temper, subtly asking if he hits her. Mary confirms, and both Julia and Bridie tell her to tell him she will not tolerate that anymore, for the safety of her child. Mary agrees

Julia checks on Honor, realizing she is dead. Bridie fetches Dr. Lynn who attributes the death on the grippe’s strain on her heart, exacerbated by labor.

Lynn then checks on Mary, her newborn, and Honor’s baby. She notes the baby will be sent to an institution. She tells Julia about her and her partners plan to found a hospital for poor babies and a home in the country for their mothers.

Lynn leaves and Bridie asks if she can carve a marking on Julia’s watch for Honor, who agrees.
