Point of View

The author writes the novel from a third person free indirect point of view. This narrative perspective grants the reader access to both the female protagonist, Nik, and her counterpart male protagonist, Carlos. The third person narrator does not merely present the events of each the characters in isolation, but also moves into the depths of their psychological and emotional explorations. This flexibility of perspective creates a balanced narrative experience. If the author had chosen to present merely Nik or Carlos's first person point of view, the narrative voice would be less reliable. The third person, however, allows the reader to see Nik and Carlos's complicated evolving intimacy from a variety of angles, to witness their undeniable physical attraction in tandem with their complex emotional trepidations.
