Summary
Adam Braun’s father was a tough coach and strict father. Other kids got paid for good grades – one kid got $150 for his good grades. But when Adam asked for compensation for his good academic performance he was told that “Brauns are different.” His father offered only his gratitude for Adam’s good grades. Half of their Hanukkah gifts were donations to charities because the Brauns were different. The Brauns read books or played outside instead of playing video games. Adam’s father expected his kids to perform at a higher level than other kids. When they went to parties as teenagers their mother, Susan, reminded them to behave as though their father was watching them. They set out to achieve ambitious goals that had to have the values to match.
