Summary
In Chapter 43, at 1 a.m. on Saturday, Kathy’s chief of staff wakes her to show her newspaper headlines that state: “The President is Missing” (211). The official statement from the White House had said that the president and vice president were secure but the media have made suppositions. Kathy asks for Carolyn.
In Chapter 44, Carolyn refuses to tell Kathy where the president is. She will only tell her that he is secure. Kathy also questions why the White House is still on lockdown. Because she has not heard a lockdown order from the president, Kathy refuses to comply. She tells Carolyn she has an interview with Meet the Press and will be in her office in the West Wing if she is needed.
