Chapter 20 Summary

In chapter twenty Covenant floats in the place between death and life but cannot let himself rest because of all the wrong he has done. He knows that Foamfollower is dead, choosing to die rather than find an escape after Covenant destroys the illearth stone. Covenant is blaming himself for many wrongs when he hears a voice telling him to take heart in the fact that Covenant did not chose this path for himself. It is the old beggar that Covenant saw right before he was brought to the Land the first time. The beggar is the Creator and he thanks Covenant for choosing to save the Land, his creation. The Creator explains that he could not interfere with the choices Covenant made because it would have made Covenant his tool and Covenant would have been ineffective against Lord Foul.
