Overcoming Fear
Hector teaches Marina that in order to overcome fear, one must first be willing to face it. This can be said for fears of any kind, but applies especially to Marina in that she must learn to overcome her fears in order to face the coming challenges. Marina tells Hector that as soon as she can, she plans to leave the convent and go to America to find John Smith. Hector asks her what prevents her from going now and after thinking about it for a moment, she tells him that it is "fear." Hector tells her that she is not the first to be filled with fear.
