Summary
At the outset of Book II: "Memories of a Jewish Child Without a Synagogue," Anne’s daughter, Clara told Lélia about an anti-Semitic exchange at school. Lélia insisted that Anne needed to do something about the incident. The narrator wanted to address the incident but was unsure where to begin. That evening thoughts of the anonymous postcard disrupted her sleep. In Chapter 1, Anne told her mother that she wanted to find the person who sent the card. Lélia agreed to help her daughter on the condition that Anne dealt with the incident at the school. Georges suggested that Anne contact a private investigator, in Chapter 2.
