Pages 45 - 63 Summary
After five and a half years, Bonnie Dee decides that she no longer wants to be married to Daniel. She doesn't even say good-bye to Daniel in person but instead leaves a note in the kitchen. The note does not even indicate if it is written to Bonnie Dee or Daniel. When they read the note, both Daniel and Narciss cry because Bonnie Dee has left. Although several people tell Edna Earle they saw Bonnie Dee leave, no one tried to stop her and no one can tell Edna Earle where Bonnie Dee got off the bus. Edna Earle believes it was Bonnie Dee's dream to get out of the country by marrying Daniel, but only found herself right back in the country. She is happy only when she learns that Daniel never gave Bonnie Dee any money during the time...
