Point of View

The novel is written in third person from the limited perspective of Sundew, a LeafWing dragon who lives in Pantala. The limited perspective means the reader knows only what Sundew knows. For example, Sundew feels guilty after she and the others arrive in the LeafWing village in the Poison Jungle because Belladonna and others are treating Cricket, Swordtail, and especially Blue as prisoners. The others are clearly disappointed that Sundew handed a piece of Blue's flamesilk over to the LeafWings, who used it to burn the Bloodworm Hive. Cricket and Blue make statements that make it clear how they feel, but they then let the matter drop. When Sundew settles the others into nests where they can sleep and prepares to leave them, Blue asks why Sundew is not staying with them. She felt he was looking at her as if she was a monster...
