Summary
In Chapter 50, after four nights, Lucy starts to lose hope and feels sick, suffering withdrawal symptoms. At her next group therapy session, she has a panic attack and runs out crying. Chickenhorse tries to comfort her and encourages her to abstain from romance to protect herself. Instead, Lucy picks up her phone, requests a car, and on the way home spontaneously has sex with the driver, Chase, but it is a terrible experience. In Chapter 51, she tries to wash all sign of him off of her. Later, her advisory committee calls and tells her that they love the new direction of her thesis. But unfortunately, because it is more creative than a traditional thesis, they are cutting off her funding and suggest she approach mainstream publishers for her book instead. In Chapter 52, Lucy returns to the rocks again, waiting, and waiting.
