Summary
Chapter 15 consists of the society column written by Amy Fontaine for New York World about the party hosted after the initial performance of The Angel of Shiloh. She describes the party, the food, and the famous people in attendance, including President Roosevelt. Fontaine points out that the understudy who had taken over for the male star did not make an appearance until late in the party. When he did come, Fontaine notes that he was still wearing bandages covering his face. He was with Christine’s son, Pierre. When Christine saw them, she got a look of fear on her face and ran to her son. The singer passed her a note which she tucked into her dress.
