Summary
In Chapter 4, Charles “Cholly” Bloom discusses his job as a journalist in a New York bar in October of 1906. He tells about a great story came unexpectedly. He happens to sit in a booth with a French man who appears to be in great distress and is waving an envelope. Cholly finds someone who speaks French. This man suggests that Dufour visit E.M. Tower.
Once inside the building, Cholly and Dufour are told to leave the letter with the porter, that he will deliver it to Erik. When Cholly tells the man upstairs that the letter is from Antoinette, he and Dufour are directed to come upstairs. Darius greets them when they get out of the elevator. Inside the boardroom, Cholly notices Erik looking at him from a secret opening behind a painting but by the time he calls the others’ attention...
