Summary
In Chapter 15, Louise and Paul get back to the hotel after swimming. They have dinner with Miriam and they all get drunk and laugh. Paul and Miriam dance together and then leave to go to their bedroom. Louise watches them pull their shades down and imagines them together.
In the interlude entitled “Rose Grinberg,” the narrative skips forward to after the crime, after the trial. Rose Grinberg got into the elevator with Louise and the children just before the crime. She always thought she could have done something to stop it, but the police said there was no stopping it. She heard Myriam’s scream when she came home and found her children. She remembered that Louise had approached her in the street a month before the crime and asked her for extra work because she had debts and bills she could not...
