Summary
In Chapter Eight, Louise throws Mila an elaborate birthday party. Myriam is not thrilled about the party, but she agrees to come home early. When she gets there, she is amazed by the decorations and that Louise has moved all the furniture herself. Even though she is very thin, she is strong. Myriam goes into her room to work on her computer and watches out the door as Louise plays with all the children.
In Chapter Nine, Myriam admires how invested Louise is in the childish games. She seems like a child herself because she gets so involved. Myriam does not know that Louise’s favorite game is hide-and-seek. She hides without warning and waits hours while the children cry and scream for her. One day, Mila does not cry.
