Chapters 15 and 16 Summary

In chapter fifteen, Carolee plans to do some shopping after the last of the guests have checked out for the day. Hope, Clare, and Avery plan to try to talk to Eliza with their latest pieces of information, hoping she'll be able to give them more. Hope begins to recount what she's learned from reading the letters of Eliza's sister, Catherine. She says Catherine kept Eliza's secret about loving Billy, and Hope says she now believes Billy was a stonemason. Eliza appears to the three girls and says that Billy carved their initials into a stone that was then set in the wall on her father's property. Eliza says she met Billy on a Sunday afternoon in March when he was fishing and she was riding. She says they should never have even spoken to each other but it was love...
