Point of View
The novel is told from a third-person-present point of view that alternates between central characters for almost all of the chapters, however in the “Nantucket” chapters the narration enters true omniscience and multiple characters’s interior lives are presented within the same chapter.
In these “Nantucket” chapters, the details of half a dozen residents of the island might be presented in a single paragraph: “By midmorning, the entire island is buzzing with news of the Murdered Maid of Honor. Marty Szczerba calls his daughter, Laura Rae, initially just to hear the sound of her voice to reassure himself that she is okay...Marty ends up spilling the whole story, or what he knows of it. Laura Rae tells her fiance, Ty, who works for Toscana Excavating and who is as tight-lipped as they come. But Ty swings by his mother's house for a second breakfast...
