Section 12: pages 93-103 Summary
Percy and Grover are confused as they seem to be surrounded by mist and moving forward instead of down, but Annabeth points out that elevators do not float, so they need a ferry to cross the River Styx. Annabeth leads the boys to board the ferry which floats past dead souls until Charon kicks them off, reminding them he only takes passengers one way and cautioning, "I'd wish you luck- but there isn't any down here" (page 94). Percy suggests following the crowd, so they do, passing the fields of Asphodel where multitudes stand around, waiting, forever. They follow the souls all the way to a castle on a hill, Hades's home address, but as they stare at the castle, Grover's shoes take off and he cries out for help because he cannot control the flying shoes which seem to...
