Section 8: pages 56-65 Summary
After Percy tells Chiron about the Oracle's prophecy, excluding the last part about failing to save that which matters most, Chiron suggests that the god in the west is Hades who has been unhappy with his lot and the fact that both of his brothers broke their oath. He thinks that Hades sent the hellhounds because he wants to kill Percy before he can clear Poseidon's name. Thus, Percy must go to D.O.A. Recording Studios in Los Angeles where the entrance to the Underworld is currently found. He can take two companions, Grover and Annabeth. As the trio prepares to leave, Luke presents Percy with a pair of Hermes's flying shoes, but since Chiron warns Percy that he should not enter the air since it is Zeus's domain, Percy gives the shoes to Grover.
