Percy dreams of two bearded men fighting over what belongs to one of them, waking when Grover knocks at his door. Percy's new cabin is very empty and lonely, and Grover leads him to Chiron to explain why everyone is keeping their distance. Chiron tells Percy that he never should have been born. After World War II, Kronos' three sons, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, made a pact to never sire any more half-bloods because their offspring were affecting the course of human events too much; the war started because of a spat between the sons of Zeus and Poseidon versus the sons of Hades, so the brothers swore an oath on the River Styx, and the oath was upheld until Zeus had a daughter, Thalia, with an American TV starlet seventeen years ago.
